Library
Renovated in 2005, the library is one of the focal points of the school. Its mission is to inspire intellectual curiosity and a quest for information. The collection consists of more than 7,000 print volumes in addition to children's periodicals, professional books, and more than 250 audiovisual materials.
Each student in grades K-5 comes to the library at a scheduled time weekly. During this time, the students may have story time, discussion of authors, literature or a skills lesson in addition to browsing time to check out books. Students in grades 6,7, and 8 are welcome to use the library and borrow books at times convenient to their teachers and schedule.
The librarian promotes the enjoyment of reading and listening to improve literacy. All grades participate in the Governor's Summer Reading Challenge. In 2005, Corpus Christi School was ranked as a top-performing school and was honored by the governor at an award ceremony.
Students in grades 4 through 8 take part in the Nutmeg Book Award by reading and voting for their favorite book from a pre-selected list of current fiction along with other students in Connecticut.
A dedicated group of parent volunteers generously gives their time and offers a variety of services including assisting students checking out books, typing, filing, and shelving returned books. Annually, a book fair is held to raise funds for the school and to introduce new releases to the students and their families.
Many of the volumes in our library have been donated through the Library Legacy program. This is a wonderful way to honor a child or loved one. For information on making a donation to the library through the Legacy program contact the school at 860.529.5487.
